Chizh For Cheii: Mutual Aid For Navajo Elders

This November, the Floret Coalition is joining 4KINSHIP to support Chizh For Cheii. Chizh For Cheii is a grassroots organization with the goal of providing warmth to elders on Navajo land.

Fire is crucial for cooking food and purifying hauled water for the Diné community, many of whom live in remote rural areas with no electricity and limited access to firewood. Donations fund monthly gathering and distributing of firewood, caretaking for the last remaining Navajo Code Talkers and their widow families, COVID-19 mutual aid assistance such as food boxes and water, plus yard clean up and home repairs to winterize for the cold season.

“What began as an idea to aid our community, has turned into a movement of love, hope, and inspiration under Loren’s leadership.”

Chizh For Cheii (CFC) is a grassroots organization founded in 2011 by Diné Actor/Musician/Activist Loren Anthony. In 2020 Loren and his team cut and delivered 1,700 loads of firewood which is over $500,000 in mutual aid. With his team of dedicated volunteers Loren not only provided firewood , but over 112,000 food boxes and supplies and home repairs throughout the winter to the elders in our Diné community. What began as an idea to aid our community, has turned into a movement of love, hope, and inspiration under Loren’s leadership.
